This site provides information of Language Grid Toolbox.

What is Language Grid Toolbox †

Language Grid Toolbox provides a series of multilingual collaboration tools. With Language Grid Toolbox, anyone can enjoy multilingual communication through a web browser.　Toolbox provides basic functions for multilingual communication including BBS, text translation and so on.

Currently, a trial site of Toolbox is provided that anyone can use. You can consider using Toolbox for multilingual communication activities after trying Toolbox functions.

If you want to use Toolbox in real multilingual communication activities after trying the trial site, we also provide special Toolbox environments for you. Please contact langrid [at] khn.nict.go.jp (replace [at] with @) for detailed information.

Features of Language Grid Toolbox †

Since Toolbox is developed based on the open source environment CMS (Contents Management System�) XOOPS Cube, Toolbox is also provided as open source software. Therefore, the functions of Toolbox can be extended by developing XOOPS modules to meet the requirements of your own communities.

Currently, Toolbox provides the following three tools.

Multilingual BBS

Multilingual BBS supports community activities with multiple languages. The contents of this BBS are translated multilingually by language services on the Language Grid. Users can modify the machine translation results and improve the quality of multilingual contents.

Text Translation

Users can translate contents multilingually by language services on the Language Grid and check the translation result with back-translation. In text translation, sentences are translated incrementally. Users can also click any part of a sentence to highlight it and its translation/back-translation results.

Language Resources

This function enables user to create multilingual dictionaries, parallel texts, Q&As and glossaries. Combining machine translators and the created dictionaries improves the translation quality. Parallel texts are used to search for expressions similar to those you want to write. In future, they will be used for autocompleting. Q&As are going to be used to support communication between a store staff and foreign customers at storefront.
Q&As and glossaries are developed by Kyoto city and currently test version.

Web Creation

This function provides translation templates to support creation of multilingual Web contents. When a user translates Web contents, the user can apply a translation template, and the part corresponding to the template will be translated as specified by the user. Users can share the HTML templates to multilingualize the Web contents. .

Discussion

This function allows users to share contents such as images and maps. Users can see both message and contents on the same screen. Users also link the contents to messages and locate a pointer on a content to show a part which they are discussing.
Discussion was developed by Kyoto University.

Language Grid Toolbox is tested on Internet Explorer 7, 8 and Firefox 3.5.
