Language Service

Language Services used by Intercultural Collaboration Tools

The following language services are available from the Language Grid:

  • Atomic service: A Web service corresponds to each language resource.
For example, Bilingual dictionaries, parallel texts, morphological analyzers.
  • Composite service: An advanced service described by a workflow for composing atomic services.
For example, specialized translations, back translations.

The Language Grid provides multilingual services for intercultural collaboration.

For example, specialized translation can be achieved using a composite service: several atomic services, such as machine translations, morphological analyzers, and specialized dictionaries are combined to create specialized translation.

  • In the Language Grid, BPEL4WS is used to describe workflows which are interpreted and executed by a BPEL engine, which sequentially invokes Web services in the workflow.

For instance, by using the Language Grid, you can easily create language services called “Back Translation” and a “Community Dictionary.”

  • Back Translation

When one translates Japanese into Chinese, for example, this function re-translates the translated result in Chinese back to Japanese and displays it. This means Japanese-Chinese translation and Chinese-Japanese translation are combined. One can check the quality of the machine translation with this function and send the translated sentences to a recipient without worrying about them being incorrect.

  • Community Dictionary

This service helps correct translations of specific words. Each community has its own jargon. Ordinary dictionaries do not contain these words, but users can register their multilingual translations and combine them with multilingual machine translators to create a collectively customized multilingual environment.
